2nd Floor (Downtown Huntington Beach)

food: 3/5 experience: 2/5 overall: 2.5/5 Agh. This dumb website changed its formatting again. Oh well. 2nd Floor. It's like a tattoo parlor in the form of a restaurant, and it is located - you got it - upstairs, on the corner of downtown Huntington Beach. They specialize in bar food, so... American, basically. But their menu is pretty damn huge. Starting with the best of the appetizers... Quesadilla: 3/5 Pretty big for seven bucks. It's like seven slices, which is weird because I don't know how you cut in seven. But I digest. You can get chicken or steak in it for a few bucks more and I suggest doing that because otherwise its pretty plain. It's crispy but very one-note. Seems like they only use one kind of cheese (probably jack). The guacamole, as expected, is from a package and tastes like it. Mac & cheese: 5/5 The mac and cheese however. Hoo boy. It's a five cheese mac and cheese so you know it'll either be really good or really underwhelming. A lot of ti

Baja Sharkeez (Southern California)

food: 4/5 experience: 3/5 overall: 3.5/5 Sharkeez is the sheezy. It's more like a bar than a restaurant (well, it is a bar) but they do serve food here. I come here to dance and meet college dudes even though I already graduated. You can get on the stage where the DJ is and dance up in front of everyone and survey the crowd. There's a couch up there too. Sharkeez has five locations all throughout the South Bay, in Santa Barbara, and in the OC. The one I frequent and the one the above portion is referring to is the Manhattan Beach one. It's the one where all the LMU students go and I used to go there so it's kinda engrained in me now. But I also like the Huntington Beach one cus downtown HB is hatnin'. It's order at the bar, seat yourself. Aside from the bar, Sharkeez main gig is Mexican cuisine. My first dish here were the mixed fajitas. Marinated steak, chicken, and shrimp. They give you a hefty portion size and they also give you several sides (below) -

Kaito Sushi (Downtown Seal Beach)

food: 3.5/5 experience: 2/5 overall: 2.5/5 My first visit to Seal Beach, which is a super cute beach town by the way and I need to move there, ended in a trip to Kaito Sushi. It's a small yet popular sushi restaurant on Main Street in Seal Beach's tiny downtown. Upon arrival it took quite a bit of time and confusion to seat us. When we were seated, we weren't presented with the sushi menu. When we finally received the sushi menu, I informed my waitress of my food allergies and she sent the sushi chef out. When he finally came out, probably a half hour had passed by since we first arrived. Not so great. I spoke to him about the rolls and pointed to two I wanted to order and if he could just make them without soy sauce or sesame seeds. He ended up giving us two random rolls he just created on his own. Some might like that. I wasn't particularly in the mood for a surprise. They were decent. Just fish with crab salad, pretty much. We also tried one of the appetizers, the fr

Figaro Bistrot (Los Feliz): Happy Hour Edition

food: 4/5 experience: 1/5 overall: 2/5 If you want an authentic French cafe experience in Los Angeles, look no further than this little out-of-the-way bistro on Vermont, way in East LA. Not that East LA. The gentrified part. Their happy hour menu is extensive, and it's all top notch. Dining with friends we were able to conquer just about the entire menu. And it's super reasonable to boot. Here goes... French fries: 3/5 A classic. They are "French" after all so why not? They put some parsley on them to amp them up a bit. These are just okay to be honest. They taste like fries. Skinny cut which is not my favorite. Though I do like the extra crispy ones and the burnt ones. Escargots: 5/5 It was a risk, trying snails. But it paid off! These are delightful. Soaked in butter, garlic, and parsley I believe, these basically taste like clams. Or mussels. Or something. I don't know, but they're chewy and they're good. Don't knock it til you try it. Spinach chees
