Holé Molé (Southern California): All-Day Breakfast Edition

food: 4/5
experience: 3.5/5
overall: 3.5/5

Holé Molé is a small chain in Southern California - mostly the LBC and OC areas - with eight locations, one that's brand new. Specializing, of course, in Mexican food (hence molé). I was turned onto this place by a friend who's in with the owners so he gets food for cheap here. Their breakfast menu during lockdown was limited to breakfast burritos so I tried those first. All have eggs, to state the obvious.

Start with the veggie burrito. Theirs is pretty damn good. It's not basic beans-rice-cheese-salsa. They got spinach, avocado, pico de gallo, mushrooms, and green chiles in there. There's supposed to be cheese in there too but I couldn't taste it. Meh. But it tastes very healthy and green. Plenty of avocado in there.

Next is my favorite Mexi-meat, chorizo. The Toluca breakfast burrito. Comes with aforementioned chorizo, spinach, pico, avo, and cheese. Once again, no cheese detected. Their chorizo is just okay. It's salty but not too flavorful. Chorizo should stand out and this one merely blended in.

Went for the asada next time. So get this, I open it up and see fucking cheese inside. Because their cheese is cheddar and it's orange. I knew they didn't put it in there last time! What the hell, dudes? !Not cool. Their asada by the way is pretty bad. I don't think they season it. At all. Literally like, how do you make steak bad? Very not cool.
The spicy chicken is probably my favorite. It's just a great flavor combo. Maybe I just got a good "burrito artist" this time (seems like she put two kinds of cheese in there) but there was the chicken, the cheese, spinach, pico de gallo, maybe mushrooms? Not sure. Anyway, excellent flavor combo. Wish I had gotten this one first.
Finally, the "keep it simple señor", which I got with sausage, and hash browns, which you can add into any burrito. Recommend putting them in this one because it's the most "classic" breakfast burrito - cheese, eggs, and sausage (or bacon). It's an entire crispy hash brown in there and it's really good. Their sausage is pretty decent too. This is my second favorite one. But you have to get it with hash browns.

Other breakfast options include stuff like chorizo con huevos and huevos rancheros but unfortunately they won't offer them during COVID for reasons unknown. It's a nice local chain but it's nothing special and their prices aren't either. Eh. Whatever.
