The Red Rabbit Kitchen & Bar (Midtown Sacramento): Brunch Edition

food: 4/5
experience: 4/5
overall: 4/5

Red Rabbit is a bar. No, they do not serve rabbit. Unfortunately. And no, their restaurant is not themed after that big rabbit in the Sacramento airport. But it is a nice bar nonetheless. Nice because it doesn't have sports TVs blasting everywhere so it isn't too crowded, especially on a Sunday when they serve brunch. And it's also nicely decorated. And the people there are nice and the service is nice and the food is nice. Noice.

French toast: 5/5
I think this is great. My dining partner doesn't like sourdough for French toast because it's hard to cut but the sourdough gives it a slight tang. Doesn't hurt that this is soaked in custard and syrup. Delicious. Definitely better than their plain old sourdough toast (mom: you're boring).

Breakfast burrito: 4.5/5
Pulled pork in a breakfast burrito is just a great idea. They put plenty along with eggs, potatoes and cheese, all wrapped in a very soft, delicious tortilla. I'd like there to be a little more variety in there, maybe some veggies. And I don't care for salsa verde personally but theirs tastes fine in general.

Fried chicken benny: 3/5
Or all the components of it, anyway, since we were sharing. I have very conflicting feelings about this dish. The sourdough toast is thin and too crispy and unbuttered. The eggs are good. The spinach is yucky because it's boiled. Rabbit's breakfast potatoes are just okay. The fried chicken is crispy. But it's not seasoned and there's not a lot of it. The hollandaise sauce is really good. I mainly got this for the fried chicken and that gets a 3 at best so I wouldn't recommend this one.

Potato rosti: 4.5/5
An interesting dish, I haven't seen anything like this anywhere else. Smoked salmon is always good. You got your dill creme fraiche on top which is also really good, capers which add a bit of sodium to the plate, and hash brown cakes which are crispy on the outside and moist (and oily) on the inside. Oh and avocado on top. The avocado today was kinda brown but aside from that this is a pretty decent dish.

Service is personable here, probably due to the low-key vibe of it on Sundays, but this is only a brunch review so I can't say anything about the actual bar/nightlife atmosphere. It does seem pretty chill though. The interior is dark and there's some tables outside but inside it's all booths and barstools. Kinda saloon-y which I like.
