A Slice of New York (Sunnyvale)

food: 3/5
experience: 3.5/5
overall: 3/5

ASONY has two locations: in Sunnyvale and in San Jose. The San Jose front is really just a hole in the wall. We went to this one.

For all the recommendations I expected this place to be poppin'. Guess it's more like a take-out place. There's only seven seats inside and one is by the phone.

Despite its small size this place has character. There's paper plates on the wall with drawings (pretty good ones!), a subway map of New York, license plates, street signs, subway signs, and a bunch of other NY memorabilia.

I got a margherita slice, figuring that alone would be a good representation of their offerings, and it was ready within minutes. They just warm it up since it's already made and you get it by the slice.

Wasn't hot enough for my tastes. It had basil, tomato sauce on top instead of underneath, and minced garlic. And grease. Damn. Or "oil", as they so politely corrected me. It was good but honestly nothing special. I think the service was better than the actual pizza. Plus it got cold quickly and cold pizza is sadder than my love life.

If this is the best pizza San Jose has to offer, I'm gonna have to pass. Onto the next city over. Which is Mountain View. And Mountain View knows food.
