Lonzo's Bread and Peruvian Eatery (Culver City)

food: 5/5
experience: 3/5
overall: 3.5/5

Lonzo's is the shit and they don't even know it. I first encountered this place when I was at a smoke shop next door. I didn't really think to check it out because they advertised themselves as a bakery but then a girl walked out and smiled at me so I took that as a sign. That and the fact that my friend was drunk as hell and I thought some carbs might soak up some of the damage. Turns out a croissant didn't stop him from throwing up about ten minutes later.

We came back to try out the food. Now I didn't know you could combine mango juice with seafood but Lonzo did exactly that and boy does it taste wonderful. This is the tiradito de pescado.

You can upgrade it to seabass for twelve dollars more. Yipes. Mango ceviche though, that's good shit.  Well I guess it's not ceviche but whatever. It's good. I came back years later to try more ceviche and this time got the mixta.

It's got mussels, shrimp, the fish of the day, octopus, and lobster. Eighteen bucks ain't too bad for all that. It's more of a traditional ceviche flavor without the sweetness of mango. I believe the sauce is aji amarillo which is pretty standard. Their other ceviches are similar but with different ingredients (all fish, all shrimp, all lobster, etc.). They forgot to put the yams in mine though because they had to remake it so that wasn't cool.

It being a bakery they serve bread at the beginning of the meal.

It's aight. It's kinda like a sweet roll but not that sweet. Their bakery doesn't look too appealing to me really. It's just a small subsection of the shop.

The last time I went kind of turned me off this placed because one, they got my order wrong and put stuff I'm allergic to in there (after showing them my list); two, they were gonna overcharge us; and three, as I said, what I wanted in the dish wasn't even in there. So we haven't gone back since. I would recommend it on flavor alone but there were just too many problems. The waiters are friendly but there are so many other places LA has to offer that I can't see returning back to a not-so-great one.
