Broderick Roadhouse (West Sacramento): Brunch Edition

food: 5/5
experience: 5/5
overall: 5/5

Broderick is a bar-slash-restaurant in West Sac that specializes in, well, bar food primarily. There are five or six Broderick locations in the greater Sacramento area but this is the only one that serves brunch (to my knowledge).

The interior is pretty sparse and somewhat reminiscent of a saloon with the wooden seats, floors, and bar. They have high-top tables as well as regular tables and they serve all ages. We came in the early afternoon and it got really busy around 1:00 or so, oddly enough. So the traffic can vary. It gets a bit noisy inside due to the acoustics so be forewarned.

Bread pudding French toast: 4/5
Bread pudding though. You really have to screw up to mess up bread pudding. This was labeled French toast but it's really just two slices of bread pudding. It's good, but a little one-note in flavor. It's got a custard-caramel flavor and they load it with syrup. Definitely filling. A little too filling.

Biscuits: 5/5
Nice and flour-y in flavor, with just the right amount of butter. Possibly the best I've had in the breakfast/brunch biscuit race. Ask for their house-made fig jam (not pictured). It's delicious. It's a bit bitter but in a good way (almost tastes like it has balsamic vinegar - maybe it does).

Chicken & waffles: 4.5/5
Broderick is also a contender for the best chicken half of chicken and waffles I've had in this here town. The chicken is perfectly salted and spiced. The batter is reminiscent of chicken nugget batter in a good way, with more spices. The waffle is halfway between crisp and fluffy. It's decent, nothing special.

Breakfast burrito: 5/5
Awesome. Made with a chipotle flour tortilla which is already a win, plus eggs, cheddar, fries (yes, fried potato fries in a burrito), and I got sausage in mine. Their sausage is well-spiced and spicy too. Excellent all around. Very filling. Oh yeah the sausage gravy that comes with it is fuckin bomb too.

Potatoes: 3.5/5
Meh they're just fried potatoes. Above average I guess, they've got some flavor but they're whatever. They give you a lot for just three bucks which is a plus.

Service is great here. It's kind of in a small-town part of town so you get that personal touch. The brunch location is anyway, in West Sac. Like I said I think they're the only one who does brunch. They serve the bill in a mason jar. No, that is not yours to keep. It's theirs.
