Station 16 (Downtown Sacramento): Brunch Edition

food: 5/5
experience: 4.5/5
overall: 5/5

You may have noticed in a certain section of downtown, specifically around 15th and L St., there is a large portion of very popular restaurants. Station 16 is among these. While most of these restaurants serve brunch, Station 16 is the underdog of the crowd and is considerably less crowded. It is a sports bar, but it is not noisy. Perfect.

Blueberry pancakes: 4.5/5
These come with a mountain of whip cream on top. We aren't fans of whip so we scraped it off. Also comes with blueberries on and inside the pancakes. Blueberry pancakes with no berries inside are useless to me so that's a good thing. The pancakes aren't the best I've had but they're nice and fluffy and they taste good. So good I couldn't stop eating them so they must be good. I'm a sucker for fluffy pancakes. Comes with a side of sausage or bacon (we got bacon).

French toast pudding: 5/5
Bread pudding is great. French toast is great. Put them together? Hoo boy. Too good. This isn't very sweet which I like. It's a dense loaf with three slices of thick cut toast. Very hearty. Tower is still in the lead for best French toast but this still stacks up (pun intended?). They even gave us extra bacon with it.

Chicken & waffles: 5/5
Wow. This is probably the best waffle I've had yet. It's light and fluffy and soft and delicious. The chicken (yes, that's chicken, not fried catfish) is thinly sliced and moist. The breading is more on the breadcrumb side than battered. It's a little spicy too which I like. Unfortunately for me the reason the waffle was so good was because they put polenta in it (I found out later). What?? Why?? Just... ugh. Major corn intolerance meant this did not end well. Unfortunately I did not get any sort of reimbursement.

Biscuit: 5/5
Also a winner. One of the best biscuits on my brunch journey so far. Buttery but not overwhelmingly so. Soft, moist, with a hint of sweetness.

Good morning: 4/5
The Good Morning is a simple breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, fruit, and an English muffin. They were out of muffins so they offered more eggs but we declined. The eggs were whatever. They don't put salt in them. Bacon was bacon. Potatoes were decent, crispy. The sausage was the unexpected star of the show. Porky and delicious, and also greasy. For twelve bucks it's not a bad deal.

Cajun sausage: 4.5/5
Got this on the side of the Good Morning. It's spicy and delicious, and it's big. Definitely tastes Cajun. And yes it looks phallic. Let's just get that out of the way.

French toast: 5/5
Made with brioche bread this time, this is fantastic. It's so moist and flavorful. I didn't even need toppings. Squeezing the orange on top made for an interesting flavor. It was supposed to come with bacon but it didn't. Oh well. We got free sausage.

The service is awesome. The first item we ordered, pancakes, came out underdone so the server had them remade. We asked for no whip on top so another server took back the top pancake and replaced it with one large, cream-less pancake, along with yet another side of bacon. Both were apologetic and very eager to please. Well, except they forgot the bacon the second time we came. But they didn't charge for it and they only charged a couple bucks for the biscuit so it was a wash. The corn thing wasn't very cool though. But I guess that's not technically their fault. Later I gave them my allergy list and they took extra care to prepare their workspace to accommodate me.
