Miso Japanese (Land Park)
food: 4/5
experience: 2/5
overall: 3/5
Miso is/was an old standby when I was craving some Japanese/sushi but didn't wanna look up restaurants. The service is just super spotty and after having too many "mishaps" I decided I'm not going to come here.
A while back they got a new manager. He came out to talk to us. Nice guy and all. But then he asked us if we wanted some spicy edamame. Naturally we were like sure (before I was allergic to soy), thinking it'd be on the house because that's kind of the unspoken protocol when you offer something at a restaurant. We were charged for it. Like, huh? If we had wanted to order it in the first place we would have...
It wasn't even that great. This is just one of many "nicks in the armor" here that made me want to stop coming.
Their rolls are decent. Lord knows I've tried plenty. Here's a rundown of some of their specialties.
Inferno: 4.5/5
Definitely spicy, and I do enjoy spicy tuna. They put it inside and on top. Fairly simple though.
Philly: 4/5
Not really a specialty one because they have it everywhere but I do like the savory pairing of salmon and cream cheese. Plus the avocado makes it nice and fatty and delicious.
R5: 5/5
A better version of the Philly roll, in my opinion. It has snow crab in it instead of avocado.
Rainbow: 5/5
Another that isn't their specialty but I always like rainbow rolls for their variety.
Ring of fire: 5/5
Very spicy and just delicious. Probably my favorite roll here.
River cat: 4/5
A nice combo of fish but I didn't really like the soy wrap (again, back when I wasn't allergic).
The city: 5/5
Plenty of fish in this one. Very satisfying.
Last time I visited was on a Friday night. It was empty. Interesting and not really a good sign. I got the regular sashimi to go. $24. It's supposed to be twelve pieces of fish.
This is ten pieces of fish, two fake crab sticks, and two shrimp. Which comes out to ten pieces of fish and four pieces of not-fish for $24. Not cool, Miso. The fish was fine for what it's worth. Not particularly great or anything but not stank.
In conclusion, it's time I found a new standby.
