Doraku Sushi (Honolulu)

Thanksgiving in Hawaii. Ah, screw it, we're having fish. All these turkey-themed restaurants are so overpriced.
We made reservations earlier in the day and they didn't have them for some reason so we almost didn't get a table. Thankfully we did, and we got the opportunity to try some great food. At first they seated us way in the back corner but we talked our way into getting a seat outside, close enough to hear the music playing. Props to the DJ, the music here is good. As soon as we sat down the Biebs came on so I knew it'd be a good night.
We went "big" for Thanksgiving, ordering the bigeye tuna sashimi with Yuzu sauce, chicken karaage, double happiness roll and Doraku tuna tataki.
Chicken karaage is your basic Japanese fried chicken. And who doesn't like fried chicken? A sweet and savory breading with a teriyaki-type sauce, this one was a win.
The double happiness roll came wrapped with cucumber and no rice so... sorta healthy? Had to cancel out the fried chicken, y'know. This was one of three rice-less rolls on the menu and it was better than any other rice-less roll I've had. Again the sauce was fantastic.
If you're just gonna get one item here, I say get the tuna tataki. They say it's a salad but it's more like sashimi served over rice noodles and other things, with sauce. Very delicious.
Last and least, the bigeye tuna, just your standard sashimi, kinda small in portion size but still decent. Basically like crispy tuna with avocado and tomato. Not bad but not to flavorful.
This couple at the table behind us ordered what looked like cake but didn't eat it at all. Man it looked so good, I said I'd go up and take the leftovers for fifty bucks but my dare was not met. I definitely would have though. Better luck next time.
