Vic's Ice Cream (Land Park)

food: 5/5
experience: 5/5
overall: 5/5

Sacramento legacy, baby! If you grew up in Sac, you ate (and eat) here. If you attended Catholic high school in Sac, you probably worked here too.

No, you don't come here for the mediocre food (hot dog sandwiches, soda pops, and they finally figured out to serve salads...which they technically are...ick). You sit down in one of those booths because it's what you know. It's in your freaking DNA.

Okay the hot dog and cheese dog sandwiches actually are kind of good. In their own funny way. Seriously, who puts hot dogs in a sandwich? With cheese?

Oh right, what was I about to say? You come here for the ICE CREAM OH MY GOD IT'S HUGE IT'S TOPPLING OVER AHHHH okay sorry 'bout that. But seriously, these guys (and girls!) are strong-arming those ice cream scoopers and are trained to pack that stuff on as hard and as much as they possibly can without breaking the cone (I assume that requires some sort of training). Better yet, get it in the cup. Not that you'll be saving calories in any way. It's just more fun to eat ice cream with a spoon in my humble opin-i-oh-nay. My personal favorite will always be mint chip because I grew up with it, though rocky road holds a special place in my heart. But every flavor here hits it out of the park. And yes, I do believe they are better than Gunther's in East Sac. South Land Park represent!

It's all about the atmosphere, and this place is so Sactown that... um, you should try it, I guess? Sorry, didn't know how to end that one. Sac's not known for much except being the state capitol and having a lame basketball team so...

Have fun!

P.S. Get your kid an ice cream cake from here for her birthday and she will love you forever, until the next year when she's expecting another one. And make sure to buy even more ice cream out of the freezer to serve with said cake.
